ITER is an architecture and urban design practice based in Milan, founded in Zurich led by Carla Ferrer and Marco Jacomella. The coming lecture at ETH Design studio METEORA will focus on its work through two ongoing projects. The first is an Italian intervention developed from research to practice. The second –Swiss-based– started from practice and led to research.
“Common Housing” is a new cooperative housing model in Italy of ca. 10.000m2, currently under construction. A mixed-use initiative located in the city of Milan, it combines 103-apartments, shared spaces, and public functions. The project roots its principles in a research started at the ETH MAS Housing and the recent experiences of Zurich collective housing projects, together with the rich tradition of Italian cooperativism.
“Touch wood” is an independent research developed with Thomas Hildebrand and Celina Martinez (Hildebrand Studios) that will lead to an extensive exhibition at the ZAZ Bellerive in Zurich and a comprehensive book with Lars Müller Publishers. The project looks at architecture through the material wood departing from Switzerland and its increased centrality over the last four decades. Bringing together the fields of forestry, material science, timber engineering, theory, and design; the project explores the renewed interest in wood through its potential, limits, and visions ahead.
