MAEID’s talk will be a hybrid, with one foot in the technical realm and with one in the creation of architecture as a hyper-local integrated fragile ecosystem.
In this talk we will explore recent works of MAEID through the lens of plurimedia, critically locating new technologies within novel human-animal-machine entanglements across media and across scales.

MAEID’s projects are often tangential to architecture, always situated and dealing with spatial questions, covering a wide range of disciplines such as (bio)-material research, robotics, interface development, as well as art and science.

MAEID [Büro für Architektur und transmediale Kunst], cofounded by Daniela Mitterberger and Tiziano Derme, is an interdisciplinary practice based in Vienna.
MAEID’s work analyses and challenges the relationship between human, space and performativity. Their work strives to establish a particular relationships with otherness, new dynamics of exchange between listeners and receivers, by linking computation, the material and the virtual, living systems & machines.
The office has been recognized with several international awards and has been widely exhibited at various galleries, institutions, and events including Biennale di Venezia 2021, Seoul Biennale 2021, Ars Electronica Linz, Melbourne Triennial and HDA Graz.

Daniela Mitterberger is an architect and researcher with a strong interest in new media, Human/Body relationship, Digital Fabrication and Emerging Technologies.
Currently, she is a PhD researcher and A&T Fellow at Gramazio Kohler Research / ETH Zürich. Her PhD focuses on intuition in digital design and robotic fabrication, combining concepts of digital craft with novel robotic fabrication technologies and augmented reality. Previously, Daniela has been a lecturer and researcher at several international graduate and postgraduate programs, including the ETH Zurich, University of Melbourne (MSD), the University of Innsbruck, University of Applied Arts Angewandte and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna amongst others.

Tiziano Derme is an architect, researcher, and media artist. His work ranges between biomaterials, robotics, and design performativity. Tiziano´s work has been widely recognized with several grants and has been exhibited at various events, institutions and galleries. Tiziano is currently a researcher at the University of Applied Arts Angewandte, Assistant Professor and PhD fellow at the University of Innsbruck with the chair of Marjan Colletti at the Institute for Experimental Architecture, with a research into robotics fabrication applied Bio-Fabrication.
